Newly crowned La Liga champions Real Madrid this Wednesday night, may 4, 2022, bundled out hard-fighting Manchester City to set up a European Champions League final against Liverpool.

The Spanish giants had seemed to be on their way out of Europe’s elite football competition when Mahrez fired the visitors into the lead to give them a two-goal cushion following their 3-2 victory last home at their Etihad Stadium fortress in England.

But that was not to be as Madrid brought their Santiago Bernabau den alive with two late goals to leave scores at 5-5 overall, thus stretching the match into extra time.

Shortly into the first stanza of extra time, old war horse Benzema struck from the penalty spot to leave the result at 3-1 and 6-5 overall and book a ticket to the final in Paris to meet Liverpool, who beat Villareal of Spain on Tuesday to zoom into the final.
