As His Excellency, Peter Onwubuasi Gregory Obi, reaches his 65th birthday having been born on July 19, 1961, I pay tribute to a friend, an individual of exceptional intellect, strong character, and unwavering dedication to public service.

Peter Obi’s political trajectory has consistently been characterised by a drive to challenge and improve upon the existing order, rather than merely adhere to it. From his impactful governorship of Anambra State to his significant role as a catalyst for national reawakening, he has repeatedly demonstrated that governance can and must be conducted with accountability, fiscal prudence, and a genuine focus on the populace. He elevated frugality to a governing principle, underscoring the belief that a nation’s resources rightfully belong to its citizens, not its elite.
