The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has donated ₦100 million and a brand-new Hilux vehicle to support the operations of the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-based security outfit established by the Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

The donation was announced during a courtesy visit by Igboho and members of the security outfit to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife on Tuesday.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the palace and signed on behalf of the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, said the monarch made the donation as part of efforts to strengthen community security across Yorubaland.

According to the statement, the Ooni described security as a fundamental requirement for sustainable development, and commended Igboho for establishing the Iru Ekun Security Network.

The monarch said protecting lives and property is a collective responsibility that goes beyond political, religious and ideological differences.

He added that initiatives aimed at promoting peace and safeguarding communities deserve encouragement and support from all well-meaning citizens.

The traditional ruler appealed to other Yoruba stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, business executives and professionals, to support the security outfit.

He stressed that unity remains essential to preserving peace and ensuring the continued progress of Yorubaland.

According to him, collective action will strengthen efforts to tackle insecurity and protect communities across the region.

Responding, Sunday Igboho thanked the Ooni for the financial support and vehicle donation, describing the monarch as a father figure to Yoruba people across the world.

He said the visit to the palace was also an opportunity to brief the monarch on the activities of the Iru Ekun Security Network and seek his continued guidance and royal blessings.

Igboho pledged that the security outfit would remain committed to protecting lives and supporting efforts to improve security in Yorubaland.

Igboho also disclosed plans to organise a regional security summit involving traditional rulers from across Yorubaland.

He said the proposed meeting, subject to the Ooni’s approval, is expected to take place at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.

According to him, the summit will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss practical strategies for addressing insecurity and strengthening collaboration among communities in the region.
