Nigeria’s Super Falcons have advanced to the third round of African qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic women’s football event after thrashing Comoros 5-0 in the second leg in Ikenne, sealing a 7-0 aggregate win.
A brace each from Uchenna Kanu and Toni Payne and a strike from Christy Ucheibe powered the Falcons to victory on Tuesday at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, Ogun State.
The Falcons dominated but had to wait until the 41st minute to break the deadlock.
Kanu capitalised on a defensive error and set up Payne, who fired home for 1-0 at half-time.
Kanu doubled the lead on 58 minutes, heading in a cross from Folashade Ijamilusi.
Three minutes later, the Cruz Azul Femenil star thought she had her second from another Ijamilusi delivery, but the effort was ruled offside.
Payne made it 3-0 in the 63rd minute, finishing clinically after forward Blessing Okpe beat two defenders to set up the Inter Milan Femeni star.
Kanu got her brace three minutes later, again connecting with a cross from Ijamilusi to make it 4-0.
Okpe, of FC Dnepr Mogilev, Belarus, who proved a handful after her second-half introduction, then won a penalty after being fouled in the box.
Christy Ucheibe converted coolly in the 71st minute to complete the 5-0 rout.
Nigeria will now face Morocco in the next round of qualifiers early next year.
