Staff members of telecommunications giant, Globacom, last Saturday, gathered at The Stable in Surulere, Lagos, to mark the company’s 23rd anniversary with a lively day of sporting activities.
The employees enjoyed friendly but competitive matches and took the opportunity to relax and connect outside work environment as they celebrated the milestone.


Tagged Glo Fitfest 2026, the games included table tennis, Big Ludo, Big Snooker, Beer Pong, Sack Race, Big Ayo, and a football competition among various departments in the organization. The departments were grouped into clusters to also promote team spirit.
The staff members who were decked in colourful T-shirts weaved specially for the event, enjoyed themselves competing among their colleagues and renewing the energy that they had put in the telecomm business over its more than two decades of existence.
The football competition was the highlight of the day, not only because of the popularity of the game, but especially for the rivalry that the sporting event generated.
Some of the teams allegedly brought in their colleagues who are good players from outside Lagos as mecinaries.
One common denominator was the desire to win over competing and ‘rival’ teams.
This strategy of flying its stars from the regions paid off for the Glo Rockets team, which consisted of the company’s Sales force and Value Added Services Department.
The team, which won the football competition, defeated Strikers FC made up of staff from the Rollout, Information Systems, Gloworld Development and E-Pin departments.


The winning football team received a giant cup and N1 million prize, while the runner-up got the sum of N750,000. Players of both teams also received medals for their performance. Equally, winners of the various games also received medals and cash prizes.
Aside the sportsmanship displayed, the event was a very successful engagement for many of the staff members.
The relaxed ambience and convivial atmosphere allowed the Glo staff to dance off work place anxiety and have fun at every turn of the ceremony.
