Senator Francis Ade Fadahunsi of Osun State, has sparked controversy after allegedly instructing his supporters to kill members of the Accord Party sighted ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) senator made the remarks in a vital video shared by Afrobeat singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
The international musical star, who shared the video on social media, described the lawmaker as a sitting senator and provided an English translation of the senator’s remarks.
According to the translation shared by Davido, “From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children, too.
“This is a federal government election. On election day, even if they come with voter cards, we won’t allow them to vote.”
In the viral video, Sen. Fadahunsi is seen addressing supporters in Yoruba while speaking about the Accord Party and the forthcoming election.
In another portion of the remarks, according to the translation, the Senator said, “What kind of life is that? If we hear anything about Accord in Ilesa here, record me and go and tell them.
“When we tell them, the cap they are putting on is a bad one, yellow one.
“So, we have come to tell you now, from now till the election day, if we see them, kill them o.”
The alleged comments come days before voters in Osun State are expected to head to the polls to elect a governor, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.
The remarks, if accurately translated and presented in context, could heighten concerns over political violence and intimidation in the state, where rival political camps have traded allegations ahead of the election.
The development also comes amid repeated appeals by security agencies, political parties and election stakeholders for supporters to shun violence and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
Political tensions have intensified in Osun in the final days of the campaign, with rival camps accusing one another of political intimidation and inflammatory rhetoric.
