The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored the Benin–Egbin 330kV transmission line following Thursday’s grid disturbance that affected electricity supply in Lagos and its environs.
The company intensifies efforts to rectify faults on the Benin–Omotoso 330kV line and achieve full bulk power recovery to the Lagos complex.
In a statement signed on Thursday by the TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the company confirmed that a power supply disruption occurred on 25th June 2026 in the Lagos complex at approximately 8:19 a.m.
According to the statement, the national grid experienced voltage instability which rapidly spread across the Lagos corridor, leading to the loss of some generating stations, causing transmission line outages, and the subsequent interruption of electricity supply to Lagos and its environs.
“In response, the National Control Centre swiftly instructed several generators to reduce output in order to arrest the resulting frequency rise, stabilize the system, and prevent further disruption to the national grid.
“The Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Joseph Tegbe, immediately upon receiving the report, convened an emergency meeting with the Heads of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) to coordinate urgent restoration efforts and chart the way forward.
“We are pleased to report that one of the affected lines, the Benin –Egbin 330kV transmission line which was opened during the incident has already been restored and is currently transmitting bulk electricity. A combined team of TCN engineers from Benin and Omotoso subregions are however working assiduously to rectify the remaining faults on the 330kV Benin – Omotoso transmission line to ensure full restoration of bulk power supply to the Lagos complex as quickly as possible,” said Mbah.
TCN expressed deep regret over the inconvenience and discomfort this incident has caused residents, businesses, and all electricity customers in the affected areas, and assured that the Ministry of Power and all relevant agencies are doing everything possible to rectify the line, to enable normal bulk power transmission along the affected line.
“Our goal is to stabilize and strengthen the national grid, with the aim of minimising such recurrence.
“We urge all affected consumers to please exercise patience as we work to restore bulk power supply through the Benin – Omotoso transmission line. Updates will be provided as restoration progresses.
“We thank you for your understanding and continued support,” she stated.
