The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has launched a scathing attack on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing his recent outburst as a “political swan song.”
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong on Wednesday, the faction accused Wike of engaging in “political rascality, moral emptiness, and crass opportunism,” following what it described as a media appearance where the minister allegedly disparaged key party figures.
The group said Wike’s comments were unworthy of a response but noted that it owed Nigerians an apology for previously elevating him to positions of leadership, including governor and minister. It argued that his conduct has become a “national and international embarrassment.”
The statement further urged individuals allegedly defamed by the minister to seek legal redress, stressing that no one should be above the law.
Addressing the ongoing leadership tussle within the party, the Makinde-backed faction dismissed Wike’s reported ambition to assume a dominant leadership role, insisting that the PDP constitution does not recognise the position of “national leader.”
It also pointed to the commencement of the sale of nomination forms and preparations for party primaries and a national convention, which it said have heightened Wike’s frustration. According to the group, these processes would ultimately produce a credible presidential candidate, despite alleged attempts to undermine them.
The faction rejected claims that financial institutions would be pressured against the party, asserting that its accounts remain operational.
On legal disputes referenced by Wike, the group said it was awaiting certified true copies of court rulings and challenged the minister’s allies to clarify the reliefs sought in their appeals.
It concluded by assuring Nigerians that “no amount of threats” would suppress the truth, adding that while falsehoods may spread quickly, they cannot diminish the eventual triumph of facts.
