The Kano State Executive Council has approved projects worth over ₦79 billion aimed at boosting public welfare, infrastructure renewal, and socio-economic development across the state.

The approvals were granted during the 39th Executive Council meeting held on April 28, 2026, at the Council Chamber, Government House, Kano.

A statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, disclosed that the council approved a total of ₦79,490,932,338.84 for the execution of projects spanning education, health, water resources, agriculture, urban renewal, and other critical sectors.

According to the statement, the education sector received one of the largest allocations, with approvals covering payment of external examination fees for students, rehabilitation of schools, procurement of furniture, and settlement of outstanding liabilities.

The statement reads in part:”Council approved ₦4.45 billion for registration fees for NECO, NABTEB, and NBAIS examinations for Kano indigenes in 2026, while ₦2 billion was set aside for school furniture across 30 local government areas.

“In the health sector, the council approved funds for hospital renovation, routine immunisation, free maternal and child health services, and procurement of medical equipment.

“Among the projects approved were ₦406.2 million for the renovation of Wudil General Hospital and ₦423.9 million for equipment procurement for Sheikh Jidda and Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Hospitals.

“The water resources sector secured one of the highest allocations, with over ₦21 billion approved for the rehabilitation of major water infrastructure.

“This includes ₦11.39 billion for the rehabilitation of Challawa Water Intake Station, Water Treatment Plants, and Goron Dutse Reservoirs, as well as ₦9.94 billion for the rehabilitation of Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant.

“Road construction and urban renewal also featured prominently in the approvals.

“The council approved ₦5.2 billion for the road linking Panshekara Underpass to Madobi Bridge, while billions were allocated to urban renewal projects, including house numbering, road markings, and street naming initiatives.

“In agriculture, ₦3.49 billion was approved for the procurement of over 41,000 bags of fertiliser, while other funds were allocated for irrigation and renovation of agricultural facilities.”

The statement added that the approvals reflected Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to improving public services and accelerating development across Kano State.

It noted that all projects would be executed in line with due process and accountability measures.

The council also commended the governor for recent recognitions and awards, describing them as evidence of his impactful leadership in the state.
