Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

At a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting on Friday in Jos, Plateau State, the governor received his membership card from the party’s leadership.

The APC Plateau State Chairman, Rufus Bature, presented the governor with his party card at Victoria Gowon Hall in Government House, Rayfield, in a ceremony attended by top party leaders, including former Governor Simon Lalong, Senator Diket Plang, and House of Representatives member Yusuf Gagdi.

Speaking at the event, Governor Mutfwang described his defection as a “journey of faith” taken in the best interest of Plateau State, emphasising that it would enable better alignment with the federal government to accelerate development, foster unity, and heal long-standing political divisions. He assured residents that his administration would remain inclusive, urging skeptics to be patient and fearful citizens to “take courage,” while pledging peaceful coexistence across the state.

Mutfwang expressed gratitude to the PDP for providing the platform for his political career but said prevailing realities necessitated the move for purposeful leadership and effective service delivery. He thanked President Bola Tinubu for his “deep love” for Plateau and pledged to mobilise “one million more votes” for the president’s re-election in 2027.

APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, welcomed the governor, calling the defection a “bold and patriotic step” that consolidates the party’s control over the entire North-Central geopolitical zone. The move, first hinted at in mid-December 2025, follows Mutfwang’s formal resignation from the PDP in a letter dated December 29, 2025.
