Troops of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Operation Safe Haven recorded significant gains in the on-going operations against criminal elements in Plateau State.

The latest success includes the recovery of arms and ammunition and the rescue of a 12-year-old boy during coordinated raids and ambushes in parts of the state.

According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of Operation Safe Haven, Maj. Samson Nantip Zhakom, the troops launched a successful ambush on 24 July 2025 based on credible intelligence, which indicated the movement of bandits mounted on motorcycles and armed with AK-47 rifles along Kampani-Kombodoro Road in Wase Local Government Area.

“The troops laid ambush along the bandits’ route close to Jeb community and in the early hours of Thursday, made contact with the criminals, forcing the bandits to abandon their weapons and flee,” he said.

Following the engagement, the soldiers combed the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

In a separate operation on 22 July 2025, troops also rescued a 12-year-old boy during a raid on suspected criminal hideouts in the Riyom general area of Plateau State.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the boy had been sold three years ago by his uncle, who is now on the run.

The rescued child has since been handed over to the Councilor representing Zamko Ward in Langtang North LGA, who is working to reunite the boy with his immediate family.
