In conformity with Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,directive, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP has chosen Friday April 14th, 2023 for their Imo State Governorship primary, just as it seems that only Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha , one time Deputy Speaker House of Representative and National Secretary of the Party,Senator Samuel Anyanwu,  are jostling to vie for the political party gubernatorial ticket.

Credible Sources close to The Authority at the State party Secretariat along Okigwe Road, Owerri said that the party’s  Appeal Committee will be expected to sit on Monday April 17, 2023.

While presentation of Certificate of Return to the winner of the primary election will done on Wednesday April 26, 2023.

Thus far, only Ihedioha and Anyanwu, have openly shown interest to aspire for the governorship ticket of the party in the State, however you never can say as others may be strategizing to take the political storm with surprises.

Whoever emerges winner of the governorship primary will be the party’s governorship candidate for the INSC scheduled November 11, 2023 governorship election in the State.

The duo had last year set up formidable campaign structures to drive their governorship ambition and both members of the campaign organizations have been on dagger drawn battle oiled into campaign of calumny and blackmails.

Recalled that Ihedioha and Anyanwu had vied for the party’s guber ticket in 2019 and it was political fight of the titans. It deepened the party’s political woes into factionalization.

Ihedioha, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, won the primary election, which was seriously challenged in court by Anyanwu, who cited flaws and irregularities in the process.

The Supreme Court however ruled in Ihedioha’s favour, dismissing Anyanwu’s plea for the Primary to be nullified.

The apex court, however on January 14th, 2020, sacked Ihedioha as governor of Imo State and replaced him with Senator Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Ihedioha is making his third attempt to win the Imo PDP guber ticket, certainly it may not be easy as a lot of political landmines have been lined against his emergence however political pundits have always described him as the proverbial cat with seven lives.
