•Obidient Lagos march
Supporters of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi have commenced their rallies in major cities in the country.
The LP candidate supporters known as ‘Obidients’ converged at strategic places in Lagos, Kaduna, Abia, amongst other states in Nigeria.
Close observations of the trend revealed that Nigerian Youths, women and elderly who are pushing for an end to corruption, bad governance and promotion of good governance are behind the solidarity Marches.
The Crowd Recorded were massive across board considering that MR. Peter Obi and Yusuf Datti as well as Labor Party are not funding the rally.
According to some people who are donating for the Obidients Movement Activities, the goal is for rebirth of New Nigeria with men like Obi and Yusuf who have shown high level of integrity and corruption free.
In Delta state, our correspondent observed the passion-driven youths came out from different communities of Delta North Local Government Area around 8 am to embark on the one-million-man march that disrupted the 62nd Independence Day celebration in Asaba, the state capital.
The unprecedented and intimidating crowd that marched from the Inter-bus roundabout along Nnebisi Road, kept increasing as they shut down the city for over seven hours.
One of the participants said, “We are having one-million-march in solidarity with Peter Obi but what we saw today is no longer one million. You see that the crowd here is about two million.
“Before we chose between two evils. Now, we have Peter Obi over the two evils. So, in 2023, the youths will massively vote for Obi.”
He said that the one-million-march would be translated into one million PVCs in Asaba, urging supporters to ensure they get their PVCs so that the one-million-march will not be in vain.
However, addressing scanty independence attendees, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, said there was a need to celebrate our freedom.
Okowa, represented by his deputy, Kingsley Otuaro, stressed that October 1960, remained a memorable day in the lives of Nigerians.
He urged Nigerians not to forget the sacrifices of our leaders who fought for freedom.
Another attemdee in Lagos said: “They have already started the march in designated parts of Lagos and have already shut down parts of Lekki,” a caller told News Express around 10 O’Clock this Saturday morning, October 1, 2022.
The rallies coincided with Nigeria’s 62nd Independence Day Anniversary being marked today.
In Lagos, the supporters started the walk from the Admiralty Junction moving through the major road in Lekki.
They made stops at every junction waving flags, banners and other paraphernalia as they rally towards Jakande, Elegushi axis, an apparent move to avoid confrontation with the police already stationed at the Lekki Toll Gate.
On Wednesday, a Lagos court ruled against the convergence of the rally on Lekki Toll Gate.
The court also directed the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, to ensure compliance with the order.
The rally, according to the conveners, is to garner organic support for the LP presidential candidate ahead of next February’s general elections.
Obi, a 61-year-old former governor of Anambra State, is running alongside Datti Baba-Ahmed. The two are facing their counterparts in the All Progressives Congress, the Peoples Democratic Party, the New Nigeria People’s Party, amongst others.
