The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has threatened to file a law suit against some individuals and media organisations, for allegedly spreading “fake news and assassinating” his character over his alleged drug trafficking case in the United States.
The media houses so far listed as culprits include: Arise TV, Channels TV, and BusinessDay newspapers.
Recall that the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois recently released a document over Tinubu’s alleged connection to drug trafficking.
The court document contained alleged evidence of Tinubu’s involvement in narcotics and money laundering said to have been carried out about 30 years ago.
The matter was alleged to have led to Tinubu’s forfeiture of $460,000 in one of the accounts,currently linked to the APC presidential candidate.
Confirming the development, the Director, Media and Publicity, APC Presidential Campaign Council, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, while speaking on the allegations via a post on his Facebook page on Saturday, said a suit would be filed over the case soon.
Onanuga, who was reacting to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) denial of investigating a criminal case against Tinubu, further accused the media organisations of working for the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi.
He said: “All those people, including Arise TV, BusinessDay, and Channels TV spreading fake news and assassinating the character of Asiwaju Tinubu will meet us in court sooner than later.
“You have all thrown professionalism and objectivity to the Jabi Lake because you are playing the script of your master puppeteers, Atiku and Peter Obi.
“The height of your shenanigans today was the wide use of a fake INEC statement. Shame on you all”.
Also, a key spokesperson for the APC Campaign Council, Femi Fani-Kayode, writing to publisher and Director, Strategic Communication, PDP Campaign Council, Mr. Dele Momodu, as obtained through Fani-Kayode’s Tweeter handle, although glamourised and praised Momodu both for his industry and academic pedigree, stated that he has no regard for “some of the numerous Media Directors of the inglorious and confused contraption that they call the Atiku/Okowa PCC”.
Still showering praises on Momodu, he added: “The rest are circus clowns, village idiots, ignorant peasants, chaff in the wind and the scum of the earth.
“They are little better than kindergarten students when it comes to the noble art of commentary, writing, speaking, public discourse and debate.
“To put it mildly they are nothing but a bunch of hopeless and helpless intellectual Lilliputians who are not fit to run a local government area let alone a nation.
“They cannot even attend town hall meetings without disrupting the place and insulting their elders and betters.
“They have a low intelligence quotient and zero intellectual depth, knowledge or value.
“Barely educated, unduly emotional, ill-bred, ill-tempered, thin-skinned, inexplicably childish, inexorably dumb, inexcusably stupid and inexhaustibly confused they are nothing but lap dogs, poodles and chihuahuas answering their masters call.
“I have nothing but contempt for them. Joining issues with them or having to cross swords with their low-level, low-quality, low-life types is deeply insulting to me”.
Fani-Kayode easily forgot how Obi, at the Arise TV coordinated Presidential Candidates Town Hall, which was not attended by Tinubu, took a swipe at Sen. Dino Melaye, a key member of the APC presidential spokespersons, for allegedly disturbing the peace at the Town Hall and for always without any modicum of respect, picking on him (Obi).

Meanwhile, the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation has tasked the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to come out boldly and defend his reported link to the whopping sum of $460,000 he forfeited to the United States, rather than hiding behind a finger and sending his media aides to attack other Nigerians.
They insisted that the burden before Asiwaju Tinubu is to cleanse himself of being linked to illicit funds by a court in the United States rather than searching for scapegoats and pointing index finger on others, whereas the remaining are pointing to his direction.
A statement by Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, spokesperson, Atiku/Okowa Campaign Organisation stated: “Is it not absurd that rather than proving his innocence by personally telling Nigerians the truth about the forfeiture judgment, Asiwaju Tinubu is allowing his aides, who were not principal witnesses in the crime, to issue threats and vituperations on Nigerians?
“This accounts for why the campaign is singing discordant tunes on taxation while Asiwaju Tinubu himself is labouring to dismiss the case as “a rumour.” This is very laughable!
“Our campaign wants Asiwaju Tinubu to know that Nigerians are still waiting for him to address the very serious issue of alleged link with narcotics for which a forfeiture judgment was imposed on him”.
