The Federal Government has confirmed a case of a woman flying in from Uganda testing Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) on arrival at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The confirmation was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate.
According to the statement, the patient is a woman who arrived in Nigeria on an international flight from Uganda and was admitted to a private hospital in the FCT, where laboratory tests confirmed the infection.
Pate said the patient is currently in isolation and receiving medical care, while the Federal Ministry of Health, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention and the FCT Health Services Secretariat have intensified surveillance and strengthened infection prevention and control measures at the hospital.
He disclosed that public health teams are monitoring 44 close contacts including healthcare workers, caregivers and travel contacts, and has directed all health facilities nationwide to remain on high alert, urging Nigerians to practice hand hygiene and report symptoms such as fever, vomiting and severe weakness.
