The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has concluded its partnership with the Enugu State Government to operationally lease its Digital Industrial Park and Learning Centre in Enugu, in a move aimed at strengthening digital skills, supporting entrepreneurship and expanding technology-driven economic opportunities.
The partnership is being made amid rapid changes in the global economy, where artificial intelligence, automation and digital technologies are reshaping industries, business operations and employment patterns.
The NCC said the facilities were conceived as platforms for innovation, entrepreneurship and human capital development, with the potential to support startups, attract investment, create jobs and position Nigeria as a competitive destination for business process outsourcing (BPO), knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) and other technology-enabled services.
“Access to technology must be matched by the capacity to use it productively,” the commission stated, and highlighted the importance of equipping young people and businesses with necessary skills to participate in the digital economy.
The operational leasing arrangement is expected to provide a framework for the Enugu State Government to activate the facilities and pursue opportunities for digital training, enterprise development and investment.
Business process outsourcing and knowledge process outsourcing are among the areas identified as potential beneficiaries.
According to ICT experts, these sectors involve the delivery of business functions and specialised knowledge-based services for organisations, often across geographical boundaries.
“Their growth depends on reliable digital infrastructure, skilled personnel, competitive operating conditions and access to wider markets,” the experts emphasised.
The NCC said the arrangement advances its digital economy objectives and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, including the ambition to build a $1 trillion economy driven by productivity, innovation and private-sector growth.
The commission said the hub would provide access to training, practical experience, business support and market opportunities.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that expand digital opportunities, strengthen human capital and ensure that communities are not excluded from the country’s digital transition.
The land for the Park, formerly known as the Murtala Mohammed Park, was abandoned for years, now hibernating criminal elements and converted to illegal feacease dumping ground.
Located at the Triangle between New Enugu Marker and Radio Nigeria, along Aria Market Road, is espected to be the exponential catalyst hub for ICT practice and development in the South-East zone.
