*Laments alleged continuous attacks on opposition
The governorship candidate, of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Enugu State Chapter, Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa, has while mourning the painful death of a member of the party, Nworie Christopher, a native of Affa in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, outrightly condemned what he described as “continuous attacks on opposition parties and politicians in the state”.
In a statement, by the Office of his Media Aide, “Nworie Christopher was shot by armed thugs during the violent attack on our peaceful gathering at Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa’s campaign office in GRA, Enugu, on 10th October 2026.”
The governorship candidate noted that “despite tireless efforts by the party leadership to save his life, he passed away from the gunshot wounds”.
According to the statement: “Today, Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa led a high-powered delegation to the bereaved family to share in their grief.
“The delegation included Chief Frank Omeje (Deputy Governorship Candidate), Engr. Ibuchukwu Obeta (State Chairman), Hon. Emmanuel Chukwujekwu Nebo (State Secretary), Prof. Uche Akubue, Hon. Emeke Okeke, the State Women Leader, and other party leaders.
“We strongly condemn the continuous pattern of political violence and intimidation directed against the NDC in Enugu State.
“From the armed attack on our ward meeting at Obuoffia in Nkanu West on 12th September 2026, where eight of our members sustained gunshot injuries, to the tear-gassing, shooting and brutalisation of our supporters at the airport, and the subsequent deadly attack at our campaign office on 10th October, the opposition has been under relentless assault.
“Now, one of our members is dead.
“This is no longer ordinary politics. It is a dangerous escalation that threatens the right of citizens to participate peacefully in the democratic process.
“A government that presides over repeated attacks on opposition gatherings while failing to deliver swift justice has a responsibility to explain to Ndi Enugu why the lives of opposition members appear less protected.
“No election is worth a single drop of a citizen’s blood. Nworie Christopher went out to support a vision for a better Enugu. Today he is gone. His twin brother is left with an empty half of his world. His family is shattered. His mother is completely heartbroken.
“We will not be silenced by violence. We will not be intimidated. The blood of Nworie Christopher and all our injured members cries out for justice.”*
“We call on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and all relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, independent and transparent investigation into the attacks of 10th October and the earlier Obuoffia incident.
“All those who planned, sponsored or carried out these attacks must be identified, arrested and prosecuted without fear or favour.
“The NDC remains resolute. The Rescue Mission for Ndi Enugu continues. No amount of violence will stop the will of the people.
“May the soul of Nworie Christopher rest in perfect peace,” stated Hon. Sampson Ukwu, Media Aide to Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa.
The Enugu State government had denied the killing of anybody during what it described as an internal party wranglings among NDC members and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) at the party’s secretariat and at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
The government noted that the party was raising red herring, stressing that NDC told lies that anyone died during the fracas just to blackmail the state government.
