The Police Command in Lagos State has arrested three suspects and recovered a truck loaded with military uniforms and suspected illicit drugs following an intelligence-led operation by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Tijani, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.
He said the operation followed actionable intelligence that led operatives to intercept an unregistered MAN diesel truck along a route in Lagos.
“The vehicle was found loaded with 47 sacks containing military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the truck was being used to transport the military camouflage uniforms to the eastern part of the country,” he said.
The commissioner stated that the arrest of the suspects, aged 29, 38, and 40, marked a significant breakthrough in efforts to curb the illegal movement of restricted materials and contraband.
According to him, investigations are ongoing to determine the source, ownership, and intended recipients of the recovered items.
He added that efforts were underway to establish the extent of the suspects’ involvement and to identify other members of the criminal network.
The commissioner assured that the command would continue to intensify intelligence-led policing to clamp down on criminal activities across the state.
He added that the suspects would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
In a related development, the Police Command in Nasarawa State has intercepted 174 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition for AK-47 rifles and arrested a suspect in connection with the seizure.
SP Ramhan Nansel, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lafia.
Nansel said that the suspect, identified as Abubakar Abdullahi, was arrested on June 22 by operatives attached to the Toto Division during a routine patrol along the Toto-Abaji Road.
He said a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of 174 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition concealed in his possession.
According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect could not give a satisfactory account of the source, ownership or intended destination of the ammunition.
“The suspect is currently in police custody, while intensive investigation is ongoing to uncover the criminal network behind the illegal movement of the ammunition and apprehend all those connected with the crime,” he said.
The spokesperson quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Shetima Mohammed, as reaffirming the command’s commitment to combating criminality, particularly the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition.
He said that the commissioner warned criminals to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law, adding that the command had intensified intelligence-led policing, surveillance operations and strategic deployments across the state.
“There will be no safe haven for criminals in Nasarawa State. We are determined to identify, track and bring every offender to justice,” the commissioner said.
Mohammed also assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged them to remain law-abiding and continue their lawful activities without fear.
He called on members of the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance efforts at tackling crime and improving public safety across the state.
