The Nigerian Army has recorded major victories against ISWAP terrorists in Buni Gari and Goniri, Yobe state with security analysts calling for greater public recognition of troops’ daily sacrifices.
On 8 May 2026, troops of Operation HADIN KAI repelled a large-scale assault on the 27 Brigade Headquarters in Buni Gari, neutralising no fewer than 50 terrorists.
A cache of arms including AK-47 rifles, GPMGs, RPG launchers, and IED canisters was recovered. The Air Component conducted precision strikes on fleeing insurgents.
On 9–10 May 2026, troops of the 120 Task Force Battalion in Goniri detected and ambushed another ISWAP advance from the Mandunari axis, inflicting heavy casualties and recovering GPMGs, PKT machine guns, and assorted ammunition.
Coordinated air-land offensives prevented any breach of the camp.
Under Lt. Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the army intensified operations nationwide.
“Officials note that thousands of soldiers risk their lives daily in hostile environments, yet public discourse often ignores these successes in favor of negative narratives,” it said.
The military analysts urged Nigerians to support security forces, saying that constant demoralisation through fake news only benefits terrorists.
The Army has also reaffirmed its commitment to defeat terrorism and restore lasting peace across the country.
