The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strengthened its majority in the House of Representatives. Five members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Enugu State and one member of the Labour Party (LP) from Plateau State defected to the APC.

The defectors cited “internal crisis and divisions” in the PDP as their reason for leaving. Speaker Abbas Tajudeen welcomed them to the APC, saying, “the APC is so large to accommodate all.”

The defection means all eight members of the House from Enugu State are now APC members. The defectors expressed their commitment to their new party and to repositioning Enugu State.

Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, leader of the defectors, said:  “This is not just a political move, it is a bold step into the future. A step borne out of courage, clarity, and our shared determination to reposition Enugu state for greatness.

“For too long, our dear Enugu State has remained in opposition, watching from the sidelines as others shaped the destiny of our nation and accessed opportunities that could have transformed our people’s lives. That era is over!”

The defectors praised Governor Dr. Peter Mbah for his leadership. Nnaji said, “we salute our Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, for his courage, foresight, and leadership. He has shown us that true progress demands bold choices.”

Nnaji noted that Governor Mbah’s transformational leadership has changed the face of Enugu State in just two years. The defectors have decided to team up with him to take Enugu State to the next level.

Nnaji concluded: “Today, we open the gates of a new dawn. A dawn of hope, inclusion, and prosperity. A dawn where Enugu state takes her rightful place in the story of Nigeria’s progress.”
