The Federal Government is preparing the 2027 budget for presentation before the end of December 2026, Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Doris Uzoka-Anite, has said.
The minister disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Responding to a question on the budget timetable, the minister said that work was underway.
“And the intention is to present it before the end of the year,” she said.
The minister also announced FEC’s approval of the revised National Policy on Food and Nutrition in Nigeria 2026 and the National Nutrition Bill 2026, aimed at strengthening the country’s response to malnutrition.
She said the documents would provide a framework to coordinate food and nutrition programmes nationwide, secure sustainable funding, and improve accountability.
According to her, the measures seek to improve Nigerians’ health and well-being, particularly by reducing childhood stunting.
She said the policy and bill were developed through collaboration involving the Office of the Vice President; the ministries responsible for budget and economic planning, agriculture, livestock, education and health; the private sector; the National Assembly; and development partners.
She added that the executive would forward the nutrition bill to the National Assembly for consideration.
The minister also congratulated President Bola Tinubu on successfully hosting the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit, held in Abuja from October 26 to 28.
She said the summit provided a platform to present the National Development Plan 2026–2030, which received private-sector endorsement.
She explained that the plan sets out a framework for economic transformation through job creation, increased productivity, and shared prosperity.
Also speaking, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, said about 10,000 guests were expected at the Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) Weekend 2026 in Lagos as it seeks to attract investment into the creative economy and expand non-oil exports.
She said the event, scheduled for November 5 to 8, would connect creative industry stakeholders with investors and business opportunities.
She said participants would come from sectors including fashion, film, gastronomy, performing arts and technology.
“It’s an opportunity to connect; it’s an opportunity to do deals,” she said.
The minister explained that preparations for CANEX formed part of Nigeria’s broader engagement with continental trade platforms, including its planned hosting of the Intra-African Trade Fair in 2027.
“In November of 2024, Mr President approved that Nigeria bid for the Intra-African Trade Fair, which is the largest trade fair in Africa,” she said.
She said CANEX would showcase the talents and commercial potential of Nigerian youths, in line with the President’s emphasis on their competitive advantage in the creative economy.
She said the event would advance the government’s non-oil export drive and efforts to expand continental trade through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
