The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared that it has governorship candidates in all the 28 states where governorship elections are scheduled to hold in 2027 and ready to take over the government houses.
The party further dismissed a reports in the social media that it has no candidates in 12 states, describing it as false and malicious propaganda.
The party said it was fully prepared for the 2027 general elections, with candidates, structures and supporters across the country.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC said it was “shocked” by reports circulating in sections of the media and on social media claiming that the party had no governorship candidates in 12 states.
The party described the reports as an attempt to mislead Nigerians and undermine its growing political presence ahead of the elections.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the NDC has duly nominated and has governorship candidates in all the 28 states where governorship elections will take place in 2027,” the statement said.
The party also rejected suggestions that its political strength was limited to any particular region, insisting that it had established itself as a national political movement.
“The NDC is not a regional party. We are a national movement with candidates, structures, and supporters in all 36 states and the FCT,” it said.
To counter the reports, the party released the names of 12 governorship candidates it said had been falsely reported as non-existent.
Those listed include Senator Kabiru Marafa for Zamfara State; retired Rear Admiral Ibrahim Sanusi Kasim for Borno; Hon. John Odey for Cross River; Babanta Michael Okon for Akwa Ibom; Nwofe Boniface for Ebonyi; Yakubu Solomon Ndam for Plateau; Ilu-Barde Aliyu for Katsina; Alhaji Umar Usman Besse for Kebbi; Jonga Yahaya Gabakau for Yobe; Dutse Aminu Sani for Jigawa; Prof. Yahaya Mohammed Sani for Taraba; and Abdu Sidi Bomi for Niger State.
The NDC urged media organisations, journalists, bloggers and content creators to verify information before publishing reports concerning political parties and candidates.
It said inaccurate reports could undermine public confidence in both the media and the democratic process.
“We urge media houses, journalists, bloggers, and content creators to scrutinize their sources and verify information before publishing. Journalism thrives on truth, not rumors,” the party said.
“Peddling unverified propaganda only erodes public trust in the media and in our democracy.”
The party said it would remain focused on what it described as issue-based politics rather than being distracted by what it called sponsored falsehoods.
The NDC also used the statement to position itself as an alternative to the established political order ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Nigerians are tired of the old order. They are tired of recycled failures. The NDC is the preferred party to salvage Nigeria,” it said.
According to the party, its campaign would be anchored on security, job creation and accountability, which it said formed part of its broader plan to “rescue and rebuild” the country.
“With credible candidates, a clear manifesto, and a commitment to security, jobs, and accountability, we are ready to rescue and rebuild this nation in 2027,” the NDC said.
The party called on Nigerians to support what it described as its emerging national movement, declaring that its “rescue mission” had commenced.
