The National leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has said the outcome of the Osun State governorship election demonstrated that Nigerians can still determine who governs them through the ballot.
Dickson, in a post on his verified X handle on Sunday, congratulated Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the victory as significant not only to the governor and people of the state but also to Nigeria’s democracy.
The former Bayelsa State governor said the outcome of the election offered a reminder that citizens could still assert their democratic will despite what he described as an increasingly challenging political environment.
“I warmly congratulate the Governor of Osun State, His Excellency Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the Osun State governorship election,” Dickson said.
He added that Adeleke’s victory demonstrated the continuing power of the electorate to determine political leadership.
“His victory shows that Nigerians can still decide who governs them. I commend the people of Osun State for standing firm in defence of their democratic choice,” he stated.
Dickson also urged candidates who lost the election to accept the outcome in the spirit of sportsmanship and support the governor in advancing the interests of the state.
“I also call on all those who contested the election and emerged on the losing side to join hands with the Governor in the spirit of sportsmanship and work for the peace and development of Osun State,” he said.
The NDC leader’s comments followed the conclusion of the Osun governorship election, in which Adeleke secured another term in office.
Dickson said the outcome should strengthen confidence in democratic participation and encourage political actors to place the peace and development of Osun above partisan interests.
