Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have rescued a 20-year-old woman who was abducted by Boko Haram during the 2021 farming season after she escaped from a terrorist hideout in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The victim, identified as Ummi Umar, was found by troops of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion, Ngoshe, during a routine patrol around the Amuda Bridge area on July 29.
She told the soldiers that Boko Haram abducted her in 2021 and held her at the Suyaka terrorist camp in Gava 1 for several years.
According to her, she escaped after the insurgents deserted the camp, giving her the opportunity to flee.
The troops provided her with first aid before handing her over to the Ngoshe community leadership through the community head, Bulama Mallam Kunda, for care and family reunification.
Military sources said the latest rescue raises the number of abductees recovered through the Gwoza East Corridor to 117 since the terrorist attack of March 3, 2026.
The sources attributed the growing number of rescues to sustained military offensives and regular patrols aimed at flushing out Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters from the area.
They added that although the security situation in the North-East has improved, troops remain vigilant and continue operations against the remaining terrorist enclaves.
