Former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dennis Amachree, has claimed that late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, had a pacemaker and suffered from liver disease before his death in June 1998.

In his memoir, DSS@40, Amachree noted that Abacha had undergone major heart surgery before his final days.

“You know, Abacha was on a pacemaker,” Amachree said.

“Maybe the machine snapped in his chest. It means he had undertaken major heart surgery. He also had liver disease.”

“You know, Abacha was on a pacemaker,” revealed Amachree. “Maybe the machine snapped in his chest. It means he had undertaken major heart surgery. He also had liver disease. The girl was a more potent pacer. She was flown to Abuja, and she and her sister were locked up for about six months before they were released. They are still in the country and alive,” said Amachree.

“We have to protect their identities,” he said. (The Nation)
