Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 31 kidnapped victims, neutralized five terrorists and destroyed several terrorist camps during coordinated operations across Zamfara and Katsina states.

According to a statement by Lt-Col. Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the successful operations were conducted as part of on-going efforts to rid the North-West of terrorist elements.

He stayed that in Zamfara State, troops rescued 31 kidnapped victims along the Bagega–Kawaye axis in Anka Local Government Area following a precision air interdiction by the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and a follow-up ground assault on terrorist enclaves west of Bagega Forest.

“The victims, who had reportedly spent several weeks in captivity, were identified as residents of Maga, Gummi, Zuru, Wasugu, Bukuyyum and Anka Local Government Areas across Zamfara and Sokoto states,” he said.

He added that the rescued persons received medical attention and would be reunited with their families.

In a separate operation within Zamfara, troops engaged terrorists around the Maradun and Gidan Dan Jaja axis, killing two insurgents and destroying identified terrorist camps.

“The operation also led to the recovery of several locally fabricated rifles and four motorcycles used by the criminals,” he stated.

Meanwhile, in Katsina State, troops intercepted armed terrorists moving through the Ruwan Godiya axis and Sayaya Road in Matazu Local Government Area.

“The terrorists were reportedly on their way to launch an attack when they encountered the troops.

“A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the elimination of three terrorists.

“Troops recovered motorcycles and ammunition during the operation.

“One of the terrorists killed was later identified as a foot soldier of the notorious terrorist kingpin, Muhammad Fulani.

“Additional rifles and motorcycles were recovered from the encounters, further degrading the operational capability of the terrorist groups,” he disclosed.

The military reaffirmed that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to eliminating terrorism and restoring lasting peace and security across the North-West region.
