The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Cameroon’s Telecommunications Regulatory Board (ART), have come together to deepen bilateral cooperation in the telecommunications sector through a new strategic partnership designed to strengthen regulatory systems and improve service delivery in both countries.
The collaboration will enable Cameroon’s telecom regulator to understudy the operations and regulatory oversight of the NCC.
The partnership was formalised during a benchmarking visit by a delegation from Cameroon’s ART to the NCC headquarters in Abuja, last week.
The Cameroonian delegation was led by the Director-General of ART, Philemon Zoo Zame, while the NCC team was led by the Executive Vice-Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of the Commission, Dr. Aminu Maida.
The engagement is seen as a significant in the regional telecommunications landscape, and shows growing cooperation among African regulators for improved service quality and regulatory efficiency.
The meeting led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two regulatory agencies, expected to strengthen ties, while opening new opportunities for technical collaboration and knowledge exchange.
Under the agreement, Cameroon’s ART is expected to benefit from the NCC’s extensive experience in key regulatory areas including quality of service management, mobile number portability, consumer protection, and passive infrastructure regulation.
