A chieftain of Accord Party has raised alarm over attempts by political mercanieries to hijack the party and make it an appendage of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement on Saturday, Comrade Moses Jaguars, Accord party – Lagos drew the attention of party supporters to a misleading and self-serving statements credited to Maxwell Mgbudem, purporting to deny any collaboration between Accord and President Bola Tinubu.
Jaguars while dismissing the statement said that “Nigerians are not fools”.
He stressed that “Accord is not for sale. It is not a dumping ground for political mercenaries or a tool for external manipulation. Those attempting to distort its structure for personal gain will be firmly resisted within the bounds of the law.”
Recalling how some individuals have been playing double faced roles in the party he said that “individuals now issuing denials are fully aware of the visible and well-documented evidence : billboards across Osun State and repeated public engagements where Governor Ademola Adeleke openly aligned with President Tinubu. These are facts in the public domain that cannot be erased by hurried press briefings.
“This sudden denial is nothing but a desperate attempt to cover up a deeper political conspiracy”.
He alleged that credible information indicates that certain elements within the PDP have planted agents within Accord with the sole aim of hijacking the party’s structure and ticket for their own benefit. These actions, he said, are driven by financial inducements and backdoor deals, not ideology or party loyalty.
“Even more disturbing is the emergence of individuals like Hashim Olawapo, a known PDP figure, now brazenly operating and opening campaign offices nationwide under the Accord platform. This is not coincidence, it is a calculated infiltration”.
He went further to state that attempts to dismiss Prof. Chris Imumolen’s mandate is both laughable and legally untenable.
Accordingto him, there is a valid subsisting court order on this matter. He said that The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already acknowledged the situation and assured compliance pending final determination at the Federal High Court. He said that no amount of propaganda can override the rule of law.
He called on party faithful, stakeholders, and the Nigerian public to remain vigilant, adding that the integrity of Accord must and will be defended.
There are accusations that politicians have hijacked some of the opposition party to advance their personal interest and work for the reflection of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
This situation has created a lot of crisis within the party leadership with many opposition parties including the PDP, African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Labour Party (LP) waiting for the Supreme Court to put an end to their leadership tussle.
