Oil firms pledge commitment towards sustaining programmes in Akwa Ibom, create over 7000 jobs

An oil firm, Sumedha Energy Limited, a joint venture partner with Nigeria Exploration and Production Limited (NEPL) and Ibom Developers have pledged to commitment towards continued sustaining projects in Akwa Ibom.

Company’s manager in charge of the media, Aniekeme Finbarr, gave the pledge after receiving an award for job creation and community development.

According Finbarr, the organisations have jointly created over 7,000 direct and indirect jobs, significantly impacting livelihoods across host communities.
adding that their community development initiatives covered education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.

“More than 500 students have benefited from our educational support programmes, while primary healthcare centres have been renovated and outreach services expanded to underserved areas, he said.

Finbarr, who spoke during a dinner event organized by correspondents’ of national newspapers in Akwa Ibom also disclosed that women entrepreneurs have been empowered through training and business support initiatives.

He also reaffirmed the companies’ commitment to local content, stating that Akwa Ibom indigenes occupy key positions across human resources, community development, and technical operations, with ongoing investments in capacity building to prepare local talent for more specialized roles.

Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Bassey Anthony, commended Sumedha Energy Limited, Ibom Developers and other partners for their continued support and contributions to the development of the state.

Delivering the keynote address, Emmanuel Abraham, the founder of Topfaith University highlighted the role of responsible leadership and strategic investments in driving sustainable growth and community transformation.

Top management staff of the organisations were present at the event, including Fabian Ebri and Senior Base Manager, Digha, alongside Community Development Programme (CDP) managers, Grace Inyang, Emem Udoh, Patrick Ukpong and Vivian Udofia.

The event brought together stakeholders from the media, government, and the private sector, celebrating excellence in journalism while recognizing impactful contributions of corporate organisations to economic development in Akwa Ibom State

The event was chaired by Senator Ita Enang, Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Africa, who also presented the award to the Media Manager of Sumedha Energy Limited and Ibom Developers, Aniekeme Finbarr, who received it on behalf of the organisations
