Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, have arrested 164 suspects in a sweeping operation across the state’s 18 local government areas.

The corps commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, stated this weekend while parading the suspects. He stated that they were apprehended for a range of offences. These include three suspected kidnapping cases, 144 breaches of law and order, one rape case, 15 cases of human trafficking and one violation of the state’s anti-open grazing law.

The Amotekun commander identified some of the suspects as Henry and Tunde, who were arrested in Obasooto, Eyin Ogbese in Owo, as well as in Alagbaka and Oloko areas of Akure metropolis. He said they were allegedly involved in armed robbery and kidnapping activities.

He added that another suspect, identified as Husseini (35), was linked to armed robbery, while one Godwin was arrested over alleged murder and rape.

The commander noted that joint operations involving Amotekun, the police, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Department of State Services (DSS) have significantly curtailed kidnapping, robbery and other criminal activities in the state.

He added that several stolen items, including motorcycles, power generators, and iron and steel materials, were recovered from the suspects.

Adeleye commended the Ondo state government for creating an enabling environment for security agencies to operate effectively.

He also reassured residents of the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while  urging the public to provide timely and actionable intelligence.
