A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Rufa’i Ahmed Alkali, has dismissed as false a viral image circulating on social media suggesting his renewed association with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement made available to journalists on Sunday, Alkali described the image, which allegedly showed him in a setting linked to PDP members, as “fake, manipulated, and the product of a malicious act.”He said the image was being circulated on WhatsApp and other platforms with the intent to mislead the public and create confusion about his political affiliation.

The former National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) who was also former National Secretary of PDP explained that the timing of the alleged fabrication coincided with his active participation at the APC National Convention held on March 27, 2026, at Eagle Square, Abuja.

Alkali noted that he attended the APC convention not as an observer but in an official capacity as Chairman of the Rapporteur and Proceedings Sub-Committee, contributing to the success of the event.

“For over four decades in public life, I have avoided needless controversies, but this incident is too serious to ignore,” he said.

He further clarified that he had formally resigned from the PDP nearly a decade ago alongside prominent figures, including Jerry Gana, Tunde Adeniran, and Shehu Gabam.According to him, his political trajectory since then has been consistent and transparent, noting that after serving as NNPP National Chairman in 2022, he stepped down in 2023 following the general elections before joining the APC.

“It is not only false but illogical to suggest that I would be associated with a party I left voluntarily nearly ten years ago,” Alkali stated. He accused unnamed individuals of orchestrating the misinformation campaign, describing it as a “desperate and clumsy attempt” to blackmail and distract him.

The APC stalwart urged the public to disregard the image entirely, reaffirming his loyalty and commitment to the ruling party.Alkali also used the opportunity to reiterate his political focus ahead of the 2027 general elections, stating that he remains committed to the success of the APC and the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He disclosed that he is currently working on a political initiative tagged “Tinubu 2 Terms – Forward Nigeria, 2027,” which he said would be unveiled in the near future.

Despite the controversy, Alkali maintained that he remains undeterred, insisting that no amount of misinformation would derail his commitment to national development and party progress.
