The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has clarified recent media publications alleging that some Distribution Companies (DisCos) received zero-megawatt (MW) allocation sometime between 20th and 22nd March 2026.
The management of NISO, in a statement on Monday, categorically stated that at no time during the period under reference was any Distribution Company allocated zero megawatts (0 MW), stating that the claims reported are therefore inaccurate and do not reflect the actual operational realities of the national grid.
“While it is true that the power system experienced reduced generation levels due to gas supply constraints, available generation was continuously dispatched and equitably allocated to all DisCos throughout the period.
“Load allocation is carried out in accordance with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO) framework, which ensures that available generation is shared fairly among all Distribution Companies based on established allocation principles.
“At no point was any Distribution Company completely excluded from receiving power supply. Variations in supply experienced across different locations were a direct consequence of the overall reduction in available generation and not due to zero allocation to any DisCo,” it stated.
NISO therefore reaffirmed commitment to maintaining transparency in system operations and ensuring fair, efficient, and reliable dispatch of available generation in line with regulatory provisions.
The operator urged the public and stakeholders to rely on verified information from official sources and refrain from disseminating misleading reports.
Meanwhile, a daily report on DisCos load allocation as at 10:47 PM stood at 3,125.00 Mega Watts (MW). Abuja disco – 541MW, Benin disco – 228MW, Eko disco – 456MW, Enugu disco – 219MW, Ibadan disco – 338MW, Ikeja disco – 534MW, Jos disco – 159MW, Kaduna disco – 178MW, Kano disco – 191MW, PH disco – 197MW, Yola disco – 84MW.
Also, real-time generation on grid performance as reported by 16 generation companies (GenCos) as at 11:00 PM indicated a total of 3,471.44 MW.
