Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of Portugal’s squad for next week’s friendly games as he continues to recover from injury.

According to Fabrizio Romano, discussions between Al‑Nassr and Portugal’s backroom staff led to the decision to prioritise the forward’s full recovery over playing in the friendlies.

The cautious approach ensures Ronaldo avoids aggravating his injury ahead of more important matches later this year.

The move has drawn reactions from fans on social media.

Ola Adeola on X noted, “This feels like a rare but sensible step back for Cristiano Ronaldo.

At this stage of his career, it’s less about proving availability for every game and more about managing his condition so he’s actually impactful when it matters most.”

Another user quipped with a hint of humor, “Oh I thought he was on strike again,” highlighting the mix of concern and playful banter around Ronaldo’s absence.

His absence opens the door for other players to make their mark in the upcoming games against Mexico and the United States, giving Portugal a chance to test their depth while ensuring Ronaldo is fully fit for the challenges ahead.
