A 29-year-old realtor, Gabriel Toluwalase, on Friday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for alleged N1.3 million accommodation fraud.

Gabriel, who lives on Olatunji Street in the Ojota area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining money under false pretences.

The prosecutor, ASP Donjor Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan. 28 at 12:00 p.m. in Ikeja.

Perezi alleged that the defendant collected N1.3 million from the complainant, Ms. Winifred Solomon, for a self-contained apartment on Emmanuel Street, Ojota, Lagos, which he failed to provide.

He said that the defendant converted the money for his personal use.

Perezi added that all efforts made by the complainant to obtain a refund or the apartment proved abortive.

The prosecutor stated that the offences contravened Sections 280, 287(1), and 314(1)(a)(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs S. K. Matepo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until March 23 for mention.(NAN)
