The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has denied claims that it recently procured the highly toxic substance, thallium sulphate, from Poland, describing the allegations as false.

The denial follows allegations by the former Governor of Kaduna State Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai, who claimed that information available to opposition political leaders suggested that the ONSA imported about 10 kilograms of the chemical.

However, a senior ONSA official said the allegations are false, dismissing any claims that the agency procured the dangerous substance.

el-Rufai had written formally to the NSA, Nuhu Ribadu, seeking explanations over the alleged transaction.

In the letter, the former governor described thallium compounds as extremely hazardous and subject to strict international controls, arguing that the alleged importation raised serious questions around public safety and transparency.
