At least 30 people were killed and many others abducted in a brutal attack on Kasuwan Daji market in Niger State’s Demo village.

The gunmen, suspected to be bandits from the Kainji Lake National Park, set the market ablaze, looted food items, and opened fire on residents.

The attackers fled into the Kainji Lake National Park forest, taking several villagers with them.

Niger State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that a joint security team has visited the area and efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted victims.

Meanwhile, this incident highlights the growing insecurity in Niger State, with the Kainji Lake National Park serving as a hideout for armed groups.

A new terror group, Mahmuda, has reportedly emerged in the region, carrying out attacks and kidnappings.
