President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that Ndigbo have now entered into mainstream politics in Nigeria.

Tinubu, represented by Vice President, Shettima, stated this in Enugu on Tuesday at Okpara Square at the official defection of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State to the All Progressives Congress, APC from PDP.

He said before now the South East was at the fringe, “the margins of politics,” but now that Mbah has joined APC, Ndigbo have thus been launched into the mainstream politics in the country.

“Today is a great day in our great nation; in deed a great day in the Ndigbo.

” Sadly, in the last 10 to 12 years, Ndigbo, one of the most vibrant tribes in Africa, have been in the margins of the Nigerian politics.

“Now with the coming of Governor Peter Mbah; with the continuous energy being exhibited by Governor Hope Uzodimma and Governor Francis Nwifuru, I believe the Ndigbo have come to the mainstream of the Nigerian politics,” he said.

“To Governor Peter Mbah, let me say this, you are already one of us. You’re a progressive through and through. And I believe you had a broom hidden in your umbrella for all these years, waiting for the right moment to bring it out.

“We want to warmly welcome you to the APC. From the convention and constitution, the governor is the leader of the party in his state. Your Excellency, you’re now the leader of APC family in Enugu State,” he said.

Speaking earlier, Governor Mbah said the entire Enugu state has thus migrated to the progressives and would no longer be on the sideline.

Mbah also said era of fragmented politics was over not only for Enugu dtate but the entire South East.

“The end of fragmented politics in Igboland is over.  We are forging a strong alliance,” he said pointing out that all the progress they have made will continue.

“I see people with faces expressing hope going forward, all the progress you have seen in Enugu State will continue with the trajectory.  We are not going back. Today, we will look back as a day we took the decision to move one.”
