Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on South-East Development Commission, has stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not rely on defections or sitting governors to win the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on Monday during TVC News Journalists’ Hangout anchored by Babajide Otitoju, Kalu attributed the party’s growing strength in the South-East to consistency, sacrifice, and hard work.

Recounting his experience since joining the APC in 2016, Kalu revealed how he was ridiculed and mocked for being the only South-East leader to identify with the party. Despite the challenges, Kalu said he remained steadfast, assuring the party leadership of its prospects.

He noted that his election as senator on the APC platform in 2019 validated his decision and underscored the party’s potential for growth in the region. Kalu’s assertion suggests the APC is confident in its grassroots support and strategic efforts, rather than seeking shortcuts through defections or relying on officeholders.
