Unknown gunmen, suspected to be terrorists, have gruesomely murdered a renowned Veterinary Doctor and former Chairman of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), FCT Chapter, Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, in Abuja.

The doctor was abducted alongside his three children from their home in Kubwa, Abuja.

According to reports, the terrorists over the weekend, reportedly invaded his residence in Kubwa, abducted him along with his three children, and later dumped his body by the roadside.

Narrating Ogbu’s ordeal in his Facebook post, Ikechukwu wrote:

“Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, the immediate-past Chairman of the NVMA FCT Chapter, who was kidnapped alongside his three children from his home in Kubwa Abuja, has been found dead.

“The children are yet to be released. May God please intervene”.

His colleagues have since expressed shock and devastation, describing Ogbu as a compassionate and dedicated professional, who contributed immensely to veterinary practice in Nigeria.

The late doctor is survived by a wife, said to be a nursing mother, and other grieving family members.

His gruesome murder occurred barely few days after armed robbers stormed the Katampe District, Abuja residence of the 29-year-old Arise TV anchor, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who died during the robbery incident, a crime that prompted President Bola Tinubu to order security agencies to intensify security and investigations.

But, it appears, the security are overwhelmed, because aside from the murder of Dr. Ogbo, three alleged one-chance armed robbers were apprehended by members of the public about the same day of the recent murder, near the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) headquarters at Area 11, Abuja.

One-chance robbery have become a serious menace in the FCT, with such notorious gangs using, mainly unpainted taxi to rob dispossess people of their belongings and money, pushing most of their victims out of moving vehicles along the vast expressways in the FCT.

Several other serious criminal activities, like indiscriminate conversion of every road junction to motor parks, in the absence of clearly marked out bus stops and motor parks, harassment of residents and motorists by touts and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), who have also been killing residents indiscriminately, and the springing up of shanty residential areas in make-shift boxes around shopping malls and public buildings.

Regrettably, the seemingly incessant killing of innocent citizens of Nigeria has undoubtedly, thrown Abuja residents into mourning and raised fresh concerns over rising insecurity in the nation’s capital.

A colleague of the deceased Veterinary Doctor described Dr. Ogbu’s tragic murder as “a great loss to the veterinary community and another painful reminder of how unsafe our cities have recently become, without any hope of its restoration by security agencies suspected of aiding and abeting such criminality.”
