Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have intercepted two Hilux vehicles loaded with 1,134 blocks of cannabis and arrested suspects posing as policemen in Taraba State.

Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Umar Muhammad, disclosed in a statement that the operation took place at Takum Junction in Wukari Local Government Area, following credible intelligence.

He said two suspects, a 71-year-old Monday George, a dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police, and 41-year-old Ezeugo Destiny Uche, were caught dressed in mobile police uniforms while conveying the drugs.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicles had been loaded in Akure, Ondo State, and were heading to Adamawa State before being intercepted.

According to the Army, occupants of the second vehicle abandoned it and fled on sighting troops.

The seized exhibits and arrested suspects have been handed over to the NDLEA in Wukari for further investigation and prosecution.

Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, lauded the troops and NDLEA operatives for their synergy and assured residents that security forces remain committed to making Taraba State unsafe for criminals and drug traffickers.

He urged members of the public to continue to provide timely and credible information to aid on-going operations across the state.
