The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has promised to solve 80% of judiciary officers’ accomodation problems in the  territory before the end of President Bola Tinubu’s first tenure in office.

He gave the assurance during the flag – off of  the construction of magistrate court Jabi District (Lot 1) in Abuja, on Tuesday.

Wike said Tinubu had always believed that there wouldn’t be quick dispensation of justice if the enabling environment is not provided.

He regretted that most places where Judges and Magistrates sit was embarrassing, and call for serious steps to address the sorry situation.

The minister told the officers that the situation must be stopped, saying by October, 2025, twenty units of duplexes of new flats will be handed over to the FCT High Court officers, with other 30 duplexes by June next year.

Wike said, ” I have been going round, and sometimes when you see where our judges and magistrates sit, it’s very, very embarrassing. And then you still consider, or you still want them to deliver justice quickly, as you want them to do. You need to provide good enabling environment, good offices, good court halls for them to be able to do that.

“Sometimes you go and you see where justices are living as tenants, and then sometimes, when they are not able to pay in time, they are at the mercy of the landlords.

“The landlord can use their car and block the gates and say, look, they have not paid us. Go away. That can be embarrassing. Even where they are living, you don’t even know, sometimes where criminals are.  So,  how do you guarantee their life?

“Now, Mr. President has said, that has to come to a stop. And let me assure you, before the end of the first tenure of Mr. President, we would have solved 80% of your accommodation problems. Before this tenure ends”.
