The atmosphere was charged at the on-going Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference in Enugu when TV anchor, Mr. Seun Okinbaloye, threw a thought-provoking question at the gathering of lawyers, regarding their opinions on the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The questions, which he posed via the microphone were simple and pointed and required a simple “yes” or “no” response.

He asked them: “Is Nigeria better than it was two years ago?”

Almost immediately, the hall erupted as the lawyers responded with a resounding “No!” in chorus.

Okinbaloye, who further asked another question on whether they believed the nation was on the right track with the policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration? He got the same thunderous rejection from the crowd.

The response, which was even louder when the question was repeated, served as food-for-thought for the administration and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)

The questions and responses had since sparked reactions beyond the venue, with several people saying the lawyers’ unanimous response reflects the general mood in the country.

Meanwhile, when it was her turn to speak, the former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, gave a string of charges to the legal practitioners.

She urged them to defend the integrity of their profession, describing lawyers as the “heartbeat of professionalism” whose conduct directly shapes the nation’s justice system.

Recall that several Nigerian had lampooned the judiciary and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for entrenching judicial rascality, and electoral malfeasance in the country.
