The Enugu State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, has commenced a large-scale e-Government Capacity Building Programme aimed at equipping 110 state officials with the skills needed for modern, technology-driven governance.
The programme, which commenced on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, is a collaborative effort between the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). It marks a significant milestone in Enugu State’s digital advancement agenda.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Honourable Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Engr. Dr. Prince Lawrence Ezeh, described the initiative as “a transformative step” that aligns with global trends in governance.
“We live in a time where technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity,” Ezeh remarked. “Governments around the world are embracing e-governance to enhance service delivery, transparency, and citizen engagement. Enugu is fully aligned with this global vision.”
Dr. Ezeh, commended the Federal Ministry and KOICA for their continued partnership and dedication to digital progress in Nigeria. He noted that the training programme comes at a critical time as public institutions increasingly rely on digital tools to deliver efficient and transparent services.
The Commissioner emphasized that the selected 110 participants represent various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) within the state, and expressed hope that the skills they acquire will ripple through the entire government structure.
“This training will not end here,” he said. “We expect every participant to become a change agent, promoting digital workflows, reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks, and enhancing the citizen experience across Enugu State.”
He also highlighted the administration’s broader vision under Governor Peter Mbah, which prioritizes innovation, digital transformation, and workforce development in the public sector.
“This administration understands that the strength of our institutions lies in the capability of our workforce,” Ezeh said. “Investing in people, processes, and purpose is the backbone of modern governance.”
Ezeh urged the participants to fully embrace the opportunity, encouraging them to be proactive, inquisitive, and solution-driven throughout the training.
“E-Government is not just about technology. It’s about people, about how we serve and how we lead,” he added. “It’s about building trust and accountability through accessible and responsive governance.”
The event was attended by representatives from the Federal Ministry of Communication, KOICA officials, senior Enugu State government officials, facilitators, and trainees. The programme is expected to run over several days and will cover areas such as digital administration, workflow automation, data management, and citizen-centric service delivery.
As the Commissioner, who was represented by Deputy Director Technology Transfer and Science Promotion (TTSP) Engr Ijeoma Nwobodo, officially declared the programme open, he expressed confidence that Enugu would emerge as a leader in Nigeria’s digital governance revolution.
“Let this be the beginning of a new chapter,” he said. “Where our public servants become champions of innovation, and where our citizens feel the real impact of a digitally empowered government.”
