Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue state, Wednesday, formally upheld resolutions passed by the Benue State House of Assembly concerning the suspension of three senior public officials.

The governor said the decisive move underscored his administration’s commitment to transparency and constitutional order.

According to a statement released by Sir Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, the suspensions were effective immediately and would last for one month.

Officials affected in the decision included Mr. Maxwell Ogiri, Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area; Mrs. Grace D. Adagba, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Mr. Michael Uper, Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission.

The governor emphasised that the decision aligned with the principles of due process, rule of law, and separation of powers, praising the House of Assembly for its constitutional diligence.

“We remain steadfast in our pursuit of good governance and accountability,” the governor stated, urging all affected institutions to maintain uninterrupted service delivery during the suspension period.

He also called on the citizens of Benue state to continue supporting the administration’s efforts at building a responsive and inclusive government.

Recall that the Benue State House of Assembly had previously refused to screen the commissioner nominees presented by the Governor, citing a demand for the Governor to take action regarding certain officials before proceeding with the screening process.

This decision by the Governor marked a significant moment in the state’s governance, reflecting a collaborative synergy between the Executive and Legislative Arms in upholding institutional integrity.
