An Ikeja Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos State, has discharged Ms. Comfort Emmanson, the passenger accused of unruly behaviour and assault aboard an Ibom Air flight.

This was as a result of the withdrawal of the charges pressed against her by the Nigeria Police Force.

The police took the decision following the intervention of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Barr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, who reeled out various classes of amnesty for everybody involved in the act, including that of Fuji musician, Wasiu Shinde, Kwame 1, but with a caveat that such amnesty is a one-off thing, but that the charge be withdrawn.

At the resumed hearing of the case, on Wednesday, the prosecution, Oluwabunmi Adeitan, informed the court that there were new developments that necessitated the withdrawal of the case.

She tendered documents to that effect and urged the court to discharge the accused person.

Consequently, Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami, discharged and released Emmanson following the withdrawal of the five-court charge preferred against her by the police.

Emmason was remanded in Kirikiri prison on Monday after she failed to meet her bail conditions.

The court had granted her bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

This did not go down well with several Nigerians, human rights bodies, the Nigerian Bar Association, other lawyering bodies, etc, who described it as selective justice.

Many Nigerians, including former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, were irked that while popular Fuji musician, KWAM 1 was given special treatment, Emmanson was sent to prison.

The case of Sen. Adams Oshiomhole on Air Peace, was equally swept under the carpet.

The condemnations is believed to have influenced the latest decision by the Nigerian Government.
