The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, has called on organisations that employ Corps members to support the scheme more actively by either picking up Corps members from camp or reimbursing them for transportation to their places of primary assignment.

Nafiu made the appeal in Bauchi during the 2025 NYSC/Corps Employers’ Workshop, organized to strengthen collaboration between the NYSC and employers of Corps members.

Represented by Mrs. Agatha Banki, Director of the North-East Area Office I, Nafiu emphasized that employers should also provide suitable accommodation or pay allowances in lieu, in order to enhance the effectiveness and commitment of Corps members.

He reiterated the importance of the annual workshop as a platform to address operational challenges, strengthen working relationships, and develop solutions that will improve service delivery within the scheme.

“From addressing grey areas to enhancing healthy relationships, these workshops always yield recommendations that shape our operations,” he said.

The NYSC DG also highlighted the expected roles of Corps employers, which include provision of accommodation, transport allowances, healthcare services similar to those given to regular staff, and a conducive working environment.

In his remarks, the Bauchi State Coordinator of NYSC, Umoren Kufre, stressed the importance of collaboration between the NYSC and employers, describing it as essential to achieving the scheme’s goals.

He said, “Strengthening our partnership is not merely a desirable goal but a necessity for fostering empowerment, innovation, and social responsibility.”
