No fewer than 100 Nigerians have lost over N500 million to fraudsters while scrambling to secure Canadian and Australian work visas.

The Lagos State Police Command disclosed that four suspects have already been detained with regard to the large-scale scam.

The Lagos police command spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this known in a statement he issued on Wednesday in Lagos.

According to him, the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

According to him,  “the suspects, who are between 23 and 36 years, were apprehended by operatives of the SCID.

“The case which was initially reported at the Ago Okota Division was subsequently transferred to the SCID for further investigation.”

He stated that preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects were all staff members of an education related consultancy outfit located in Ago, Okota.

Hundeyin stated that, “further investigations have shown that the syndicate included additional accomplices, and efforts are on-going to apprehend them and bring them to justice upon conclusion of the investigation.”

He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, advised the public to verify the authenticity of travel and recruitment agencies before engaging them in any visa-related transaction.
