The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) said it has taken steps to avert flood in prone areas in Abuja.
This follows the barricading of the Ring Road 2 interchange at Galadimawa where residents had experienced flood in the past.
The Director, Abdulrahman Mohammed, explained the action on Tuesday, when he led some officials of the Department of Development Control to barricade the interchange.
A statement issued same day by the Head, Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, stated that the initiative was part of the measures taken to mitigate the devastating impact of flooding during the rainy seasons.
She explained that the water level on the slip road was building up which shows there will be imminent flooding of the place, and the action taken to advert any possible crisis.
The statement read in part that, “the water level on the slip road is building up and this place is expected to be flooded.
“The closure of this road is part of the preparedness and mitigation processes aimed to save lives and property”.
Isa in the statement, appealed to residents of the FCT for patience and to seek alternative routes as the exercise lasts.
According to the FEMED Director,, the slip road should have been closed to vehicular movement in June, but the Department has been monitoring the water level in the territory to ascertain when to take the action to reduce hardship on the residents.
