The folklore music maestro, Gentleman Mike Ejeagha, has passed on to eternal glory.

According to sketchy information from his Umuagba Community in Imezi-Owa, Ezeagu LGA, Enugu State, Ejeagha joined his ancestors on Friday, June 6th, 2025, at the age of 95 years.

He was a veteran highlife and folklore legend, establishing a musical band known as Premier Dance Band, with which he produced several musical albums, through which he depict various sociological issues confronting human beings in musical ensemble.

Having been born in Umuagba in 1930, Sir Ejeagha, whose most popular album, “Omeka Agu” which features the refrain “Gwo-Gwo Gwo-Ngwo”, made more popular by a social media influencer, Brain Jotter, in 2023, pushed Ejeagha to the crescendo of his musical career.

A master storyteller and custodian of Igbo oral tradition, Sir Mike Ejeagha’s musical rhymes depict positive Igbo and African traditional values, preserved the Igbo culture in particular and entertained generations.

At a point during his lifetime, Mike Ejeagha became one-man campaign bus stop for politicians, especially those contesting for governorship and senatorial portfolios in Enugu State, as each paid homage to him, making campaign promises, most of which remain unfulfilled.

At the inception of the Peter Mbah administration in Enugu State, the Governor awarded contract for the tarring of the Mike Ejeagha Street, in Abakpa Nike, Enugu, thus, bringing the endless unfulfilled promises to provide well-paved motorable road for the residents of that section of Abakpa where Ejeagha lived.

The Ejeagha family is yet to issue an official statement on the passage of Mike, the renowned global musical icon.
