Fear and trepidation have gripped the residents of Umumba-Ndiagu Community in Ezeagu LGA, Enugu State, as a popular native doctor was reportedly caught by villagers after allegedly kidnapping and burying several victims, including a pregnant woman and her mother alive in a soakaway pit within his compound.

According to a viral video circulating on the social media, the horrifying discovery was made at night as villagers gathered around the scene, discussing that abominable act.

The footage showed the villagers watching in total disbelief as the soakaway pit was being demolished, and uncovering the grim reality of the native doctor’s (names withheld) alleged abominable act.

Eyewitnesses claim that multiple bodies were recovered from the pit, raising fears there could be more victims linked to the suspect, probably buried or kept elsewhere.

Among the deceased were reportedly a pregnant woman and her mother, sparking outrage and grief across the community.

As at the time of filing this report, law enforcement agencies have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.

But, the chairman of the LGA, Dr. Vitalis Ndu, was reported to have despatched a fact-finding team, comprising the local government administration and the Police, the Department of State Security and Civil Defence, to the town.

The LG boss equally also said to have asked all the Presidents of Town Unions and traditional rulers in the local government to screen their communities for people of such terrible character, vowing to get to the root of the matter.

Efforts to speak with Dr. Ndu or any other official of the LGA is yet to materialise as at press time.

Meanwhile, the native doctor is said to be well known in the community for his spiritual services and was erroneously considered to be a good man due to his supposed humanitarian gestures.
